The Nigeria Labour Congress has taken the first step towards solving the internal crisis in the congress on by constituting a reconciliation committee to reach out to the aggrieved unions which broke into a faction after the 11th delegate conference.
Joe Ajaero, Igwe Achese and Issa Aremu led about 23 unions to form a factional executive following their insistence that the elections which produced Ayuba Wabba as president, were not transparent.
The president of the NLC, Wabba, while inaugurating the committee at the Labour House in Abuja, said the congress was interested in resolving all crises that emanated from the elections.
“As I said at the last interactive session with the press, we have time tested internal dispute resolution mechanisms that have been used over time to address internal disputes. Those mechanisms have assisted greatly even in convening the 11th delegates’ conference,” he said.
The committee headed by the pioneer General Secretary of the NLC,
Aliyu Dangiwa, has two weeks to implement and execute its mandate.
He appealed to the aggrieved members to put the interest of Nigerian workers first.
On his part, Dangiwa gave the assurance that the committee would try its best to carry out its mandate.
“We hope to look into the entire issues widely and deeply and proffer a lasting solution,” he said other members of the committee include Adeyemi Peters, Amaechi Asugwuni, Dr. Comfort Oko and Daniel Adekola.
