The acting Secretary General of the ECOWAS parliament Cheikh Abdelkader Dansoko has died at the age of 61 following a brief illness.
This was made known by the speaker of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, Senator Ike Ekweremadu. Dansoko was said to have passed away on September 6.
The deceased, who hailed from Mali, served with the body starting from 2002, when he was appointed the communication adviser to the pioneer speaker of the Parliament, Prof Ali Diallo. Later on he rose to the position of the chief communications officer, and in 2013 was appointed the secretary general of the Community Parliament.
Ekweremadu expressed sadness, having characterized the death of Dansoko as the great loss both to his family and the ECOWAS team.
“Late Dr. Cheikh Dansoko was an easy-going professional and an invaluable treasure in parliamentary practice and institutional memory. In particular, he was a purposeful manager of resources who worked so hard towards the enhancement of the powers of the ECOWAS Parliament, a project that was sadly yet to be realized before his death.”
He also condoled with the family of the deceased, the government and the people of Mali, praying God to grant the late official a peaceful repose.
