As the March 28 presidential election beckons, The Citizens Popular Party (CPP) has adopted president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as its candidate for Saturday's election.
The position of the party was made known by the National chairman of the party in a press briefing in Abuja Tuesday, noting that "after months of campaign, wide consultations, deliberating as a political party and opinions received from millions of Nigerians across all tribes and religions, the party has come to a conclusion to adopt President Jonathan as its presidential candidate."
According to him, the decision was based on some grounds of understanding that President Jonathan would continue to pursue vigorously and complete his transformation agenda; that recommendations of the 2014 National Conference would be implemented; that greater effort should be made to secure lives and property as demonstrated in the last six weeks.
They urged President Jonathan that when elected, he should ensure that the unity of Nigeria is not subjected to any renegotiation, that petroleum industry bill would be passed and signed into law; and more efforts should be put into solving the problem of power supply and oil theft.
